Resilience Isn’t About Moving On
Last week, I had the privilege of attending an SBS event hosted by Theo Paphitis. I was surrounded by other small business owners, all of us navigating our own journeys, our own challenges and our own reasons for starting something from scratch.
The theme of the day was, “resilience”.
We heard from Katie Piper, who spoke with such honesty about her own journey of strength, courage and resilience. She was, quite simply, the epitome of all three. Not in a way that felt distant or unattainable but in a way that acknowledged just how difficult it can be to keep going when life changes in ways you never expected it to.
Sometimes, resilience is just getting through the day.
Sometimes it’s showing up when your heart feels heavy.
Sometimes it’s finding a way to live alongside loss, not beyond it.
People often say to those who are grieving,
“You’re so strong.”
But the truth is, resilience after loss isn’t a choice you consciously make.
It’s something you slowly, painfully learn, because you have to.
Blue Bear & Co. was never created from a place of strength.
It was created from love.
From loss.
From the overwhelming need to still feel close to Charlie in a world where he was no longer physically here.
It came from asking:
How do you carry love forward when someone you love is no longer in your arms?
As Mother’s Day approaches, this question can feel even louder.
For many, it’s a day of celebration, flowers, handmade cards, breakfast in bed.
But for others, it’s a day that highlights absence.
It can be:
• Mums missing their children
• Children missing their mums
• Families navigating a space that feels incomplete
• Hearts trying to honour love, whilst holding grief
Days like these can take resilience in its quietest form.
At Blue Bear & Co., our Bears for Life were created to offer connection in those moments, not to replace, or to fix, but simply to comfort.
A heartbeat to hold onto.
A familiar voice to hear again.
A scent that brings someone close.
A way to carry love forward.
Resilience doesn’t mean forgetting.
It doesn’t mean moving on.
Sometimes, it simply means finding gentle ways to keep someone with you as life continues around you.
If this Mother’s Day feels complicated for you, please know you’re not alone in that.
And if you’re looking for a way to honour someone you love, whether that’s a mum, a child, a grandmother, or someone who held that place in your heart…our bears are here to hold those memories safely.
Always.
