The Story Behind Bears for Life (And Why It Matters)

There are moments in life that change you forever.

For me, that moment was losing my son, Charlie.

Grief is something that’s incredibly hard to put into words. It changes everything, the way you see the World, the way you feel and the way you move through each day.

As a parent, one of the hardest parts is knowing that your other children are experiencing that loss too.

You want to comfort them.

You want to take their pain away.

But often… you can’t.

Holding Onto What Matters Most

In the days, weeks and months after losing Charlie, I kept coming back to one thought:

How do we stay connected to the people we love, even when they’re no longer here?

Because when someone you love is gone, it’s not just their presence you miss.

It’s their voice.

Their warmth.

The little things that made them, them.

And that’s where the idea for Blue Bear & Co. began.

Our bears were created to be more than just something soft to hold.

They are specially designed memory bears that offer comfort and connection, holding a voice, a heartbeat, a scent… something tangible in moments that can feel incredibly empty.

What I Started to Notice

As I began sharing our bears, something became very clear.

There were so many families who needed this kind of comfort…but not everyone had access to it.

Through our charitable work, we’ve been able to gift lots of bears to families navigating grief, often through hospices and support organisations.

And every time, the response is the same:

This matters.

This helps.

This makes a difference.

Our Mission

We started thinking, how can we make our bears more accessible to families who need them most, without cost ever being a barrier?

Instead of relying solely on donations or one-off fundraising, I want to create something more sustainable. Something that could grow, reach further and support more families over time.

That’s where the partnership model came in.

The Bears for Life mission, where businesses can fund memory bears that are then gifted directly to families through hospices and hospitals.

It’s a way of bringing together:

• community

• and meaningful impact

More Than Just a Bear

These bears are not just a product.

They are something a child or a family can hold when they’re missing someone they love.

Something that brings comfort in the quiet moments.

Something that helps them feel close, even when that person isn’t physically there.

They are a sensory experience wrapped in a hug, providing comfort and connection when it’s needed the most.

Looking Ahead

This is just the beginning.

My hope is that Bears for Life continues to grow, reaching more families, supporting more children and helping ensure that no one navigating grief feels completely alone.
